Wire roller bearing

A wire roller bearing is a wire-race bearing that uses rollers instead of balls as rolling elements. The rollers do not run on solid bearing rings but on raceways made of wire that are inserted into the surrounding design. A wire roller bearing should not be confused with a wire guide roller, also called a wire guide bearing, which deflects wire ropes and cables in conveyor systems.

Design and function

In Franke wire roller bearings, the running rollers are arranged crosswise. As a result, they absorb high loads from all directions and run smoothly even under high moment loads. The roller raceways are made of hardened and tempered chrome silicon steel, the rolling elements of hardened rolling bearing steel and the cage of polyamide or thermoplastic polyurethane.

Properties

  • smooth running even under high moment loads
  • high stiffness
  • insensitive to shocks and vibrations
  • compact installation space
  • suitable for medium rotational speeds and accuracies

Wire roller bearings from Franke

As a bearing element for installation in your own design, Franke offers the roller bearing type LEW in sizes LEW 4 and LEW 7 for bearing diameters from 150 mm to 400 mm, special sizes on request. The operating temperature ranges from minus 30 to plus 80 degrees Celsius, briefly up to plus 100 degrees Celsius, and the peripheral speed is max. 2 m/s.

As a ready-to-install slewing ring, the principle is available in the roller bearing type LVW with inner and outer rings made of anodized aluminium and ready-made mounting holes (bearing diameters 200 mm to 500 mm) and in the double row angular contact roller bearing type LVG (200 mm to 400 mm).

Franke also manufactures bearings individually to your specifications: Individual bearing program
